The relationship of myocardial oxygenation to coronary flow and oxygen saturation during CO2 manipulations

چکیده
Background Oxygenation-sensitive (OS) imaging relies on alterations of deoxyhemoglobin (dHb) in the blood. Thus signal intensity (SI) is dependent on the factors that shift the dHb fraction; oxygen saturation, tissue oxygen extraction and blood supply. We aimed to physically measure and compare these parameters while manipulating myocardial oxygenation with systemic CO2 changes. These changes cause hypercapnic vasodilation and hypocapnic vasoconstriction, which affect the myocardial blood supply and subsequently myocardial oxygenation.

The Hemodynamic Effects of Drugs on Myocardial Oxygen Use
The circulatory responses to high equinalgesic doses of morphine are compared with those of pethidin. The decrease in mean arterial blood pressure in case of morphine was 28p.c., with a paralleled and identical decrease in total peripheral resistance and no negative inotropic effects. Pethidine decreased blood pressure 54p.c., as a result of peripheral vasodilation of 46p.c. and a sharp drop...
متن کاملMyocardial oxygenation is maintained during hypoxia when combined with apnea – a cardiovascular MR study
Oxygenation-sensitive (OS) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is used to noninvasively measure myocardial oxygenation changes during pharmacologic vasodilation. The use of breathing maneuvers with OS CMR for diagnostic purposes has been recently proposed based on the vasodilatory effect of Co2, which can be enhanced by the additive effect of mild hypoxia. This study seeks to investigate th...
متن کاملOxygenation-sensitive CMR for assessing vasodilator-induced changes of myocardial oxygenation
BACKGROUND As myocardial oxygenation may serve as a marker for ischemia and microvascular dysfunction, it could be clinically useful to have a non-invasive measure of changes in myocardial oxygenation. However, the impact of induced blood flow changes on oxygenation is not well understood. We used oxygenation-sensitive CMR to assess the relations between myocardial oxygenation and coronary sinu...
متن کاملRelationship between regional myocardial oxygenation and perfusion in patients with coronary artery disease: insights from cardiovascular magnetic resonance and positron emission tomography.
BACKGROUND It is recognized that the interplay between myocardial ischemia, perfusion, and oxygenation in the setting of coronary artery disease (CAD) is complex and that myocardial oxygenation and perfusion may become dissociated. Blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has the potential to noninvasively measure myocardial oxygenation, whereas positron emiss...
متن کاملMyocardial Oxygenation during Acute Normovolemic Hemodilution: Impact of Hypocapnic Alkalosis.
BACKGROUND Increases in myocardial blood flow preserve myocardial oxygenation during moderate acute normovolemic hemodilution. Hypocapnic alkalosis (HA) is known to cause coronary vasoconstriction and increase hemoglobin-oxygen affinity. We evaluated whether these effects would compromise myocardial oxygenation during hemodilution. METHODS Eighteen anesthetized dogs were studied. Myocardial b...
